To use a recoded variable in a table:
- In the Report toolbox, open the table you wish to recode - for example .
- Open the properties page for the variable you wish to recode; in this case the Age variable.
- Click the down-arrow beside the Recoding field to open a drop-down list of the recodings available, and select from the list the recoding you wish to use .
- Click Apply (or Apply and Close).
- Save the changes.

The recoding is applied to the Table and the table is updated . Note how the row headers and the responses in each cell have changed, while the totals in the bottom row remain the same.

Reusing the Recoded Variables
You can save a recoding as a template. To do this, click the Save as Reusable Recoding button .

You can now apply this recoding to different questions. To do this:
- Go to the Reusable Recoding folder in the Data Source toolbox.
- Right-click on the saved recoding and choose Apply Reusable Recoding to Variables from the menu.
Example
Assume you must recode the question shown below, save the recode as a template, then apply it to another scale.

- Create the recoding as required (go to Recoding a Variable for more information).
- Click the Save as Reusable Recoding button to save the recoding as a template.
- Go to the Reusable Recoding folder in the Data Source toolbox.
- Right-click on the saved recoding and choose Apply Reusable Recoding to Variables from the menu .
- Select the questions you wish to apply the reusable template to.
- Click the Save button to save the changes.

You can also choose Select all to apply the recoding to the entire questionnaire. Unselect allows you to unselect all previously selected questions. You can also expand or collapse your questionnaire tree by clicking Expand all or Collapse all.
